Are you having real OBEs or just vivid dreams?
This is the question one blogger implies in his post on different types of OBEs from the website, astralprojection.tv. The post doesn’t seem to make it totally clear whether this is a literal or simply a semantic argument. Check out this piece and let us know what you think.
Different Types of OBEs
The most common error that can be found out there is assuming that any and all projections into the non-physical are astral voyages. This is a huge misconception and allows to easily detect those who do not know what they talk about.

We exist in several planes at once, although our consciousness and perception might be limited to one. Our personality is composed of three bodies, each one existing in their own plane, whilst the three of them coexist in the wider reality at the same time. They are: the mental, the astral and the physical bodies.
We think, image, reason, recollect and visualize with our mental vehicle. We feel emotions and passions with our astral body. We move, act and interact in the physical with our body of flesh. All three bodies exist and act at the same time, and so we think, feel and act at the same time. But our consciousness if focused only into the physical, and so it happens we only get a glance of those more subtle realities we can’t perceive with our dense body.
When our conscience shifts its focus to another body other than the physical, then an OBE (Out of Body Experience) is achieved.
This includes dreaming, lucid dreaming, mental projecting and astral travel. Here is where the main error and distortion is found: most think that all or any OBE happens in the astral plane. This is untrue.
The reality is that most projections into the non-physical happen in the mental plane, because it is there that our consciousness sits, even though it “tunes in” in to the physical most of that time. Dreams are a mental experience. Unless you know hot to incarnate your astral body once in a mental projection – and thus from your mental body – any non-physical experience you are having IS mental.
There are numerous differences between mental as astral projections. The astral is a lot closer to the physical, and imposes its own limitations: one can only astral travel where the physical body could go. It is not possible, for example, to astral travel to a different planet, although it is possible to do it mentally. The astral plane is bound to time (but is distance free), whereas the mental plane is free from both time and space.
There are many other differences as well, such as the inhabitants of each plane and the level of interaction and causality one can have on each, but let’s outline the most important one from a safety point of view: if your are touched whilst on a mental voyage, your consciousness will refocus on your physical vehicle and you will be compelled to “awake” into your body of flesh.
If you are touched when astral traveling, the electromagnetic field of another human will brake the link between your astral self and your physical body, and you will be unable to reincorporate into it. From a medical point of view, this means death.
Have you experienced a difference between astral travel and mental plane travel as the author of this post suggests?
