A “lucid dream” occurs when you gain awareness within a dream. Your normal dreams are characterized by a lack of consciousness – the feeling that the people and situations simulated by your subconscious are actually real when they are not. On the contrary, within a lucid dream you know you are dreaming, and you can even learn to control what you experience within the dream.
Most people experience lucid dreams from time to time without even trying. Lucid dreams are most likely to occur in the moments just before you wake up, as you are suspended between consciousness and the dream world. Don’t be discouraged if you’ve never experienced a lucid dream though; it is possible to learn how to have a lucid dream even if you have little to no memories of your existence in the dream world.
Lucid Dreaming: Your Portal to Astral Projection
Those who are trained to gain awareness in the dream world are more in tune with the subconscious. As such, they are able to understand their inner self on a deeper level compared to most people. In addition, those people who nurture a connection with their subconscious mind put themselves in a better position to develop psychic abilities, enhance their extra-sensory perception (ESP), and fine-tune their intuition. Lucid dreams allow a person to tap into their own supernatural powers.
Learning how to have a lucid dream can also pave the way for the development of another exciting ability. If you’ve never heard of astral projection, it’s a fully proven technique which enables you to have an out of body experience. Through astral projection you can actually leave your physical body and embark on a journey through the fourth dimension, also known as the astral realm. A lucid dream is the portal that allows you to enter the astral realm. Anyone can astral project, and learning more about this fascinating skill is the first step towards taking your first trip to the astral world.

How to Have a Lucid Dream: Lucid Dreaming Techniques
- Keep a dream journal. The easiest way to get in touch with your subconscious is to start keeping a dream journal. When you wake up following a dream, simply record everything you can remember about your experience in the dream world. Physically writing down what happened is the best way to solidify your memories so that you can re-access them. While awake you can go through what you have written down and interpret the events you’ve experienced. As you continue to record what you’ve experienced you’ll notice yourself naturally remembering more and more – you’re gaining control over your dreams.
- Affirm and re-affirm. Repeating positive affirmations can have a profound and greatly underestimated effect on your ability to turn on lucid dreaming. Your mind is powerful, so before you go to sleep, tell yourself firmly that you will wake up when you find yourself dreaming and repeat this mantra several times. Your subconscious mind will follow suit and you’ll be able to gain awareness the next time you enter the dream world.
- Open your mind. It’s okay to have some reservations about lucid dreaming. For instance you might be worried about what you will find out about yourself. You need to approach lucid dreaming with an open mind – you cannot close yourself off to the opportunities for personal growth that will be made possible through lucid dreaming.
- Practise makes perfect. Each and every time you have a lucid dream, you will improve the control you have over what you encounter in your own personal dreamscape. Remember to start small – enjoy manipulating small objects within your dreams and move on to deciding who you’d like to meet, where you’d like to go, and what you’d like to do.
The dream world is full of potential, giving the dreamer the opportunity learn and grow through self-awareness. In addition, lucid dreaming techniques serve as the perfect gateway to experiencing the marvels of astral projection. Anyone who would like to develop this advantageous skill can take some time to learn more.
